So, without further ado:

  1. We Got Into Techstars!

Unfamiliar with Techstars? In short, they are the Warburtons of sliced bread in the accelerator space. They welcome only the top 1% of entrepreneurial talent from around the globe, providing the best mentors and an unrivaled network of corporate partners, investors and alumni as part of their highly successful and influential 3-month programmes.

We are ecstatic to have made it through their rigorous application process and to be welcomed to the Techstars Minnesota Twins Accelerator, at the historic Ford Center, in Minneapolis. The programme is the first in Minnesota sports and the second to be operated and funded by a Major League Baseball club.

You may have yet to sit down and think about the crossover between the sports and the music industry. Yet, similar to music,  beyond the stadiums, everything from our childhood summer memories, the people we spend our time with, the clothes we wear, and even the food we eat is all influenced by sports. The influences go in both directions Royce Lewis, Jose Miranda, Chris Archer all have walk-out songs inspired by their favourite musicians. When you think about it, sports and music are inextricably entwined; by team chants/songs, national anthems, stadium organists  – the list goes on! At the heart of it all? Social cohesion, and a boost in well-being!

With the fast-evolving sporting and entertainment industries, fans are changing how they engage, which presents tech companies like Biiah with a unique opportunity to explore! We’re excited about what this could mean for Twins baseball fans in the future. Watch this space!

4. We’re A Music Ally SI:X Finalist 2022!

The new design better illustrates our mission and is jam-packed with valuable features that cater to all of your singing for well-being needs.

Music Ally named us as one of their finalists for their SI:X award 2022!

The winners in each category of this mentorship and global showcase contest will be invited to present as part of the NY:LON Connect conference in London in January 2023 and will benefit from mentorship from supporting sponsors such as Amazon Music, FUGA, PRS For Music, The Raine Group, Reed Smith & Universal Music Group.

The categories for this year are booming with innovation, and we’re delighted to be a part of it. The finalists will soon be profiled in Music Ally’s Q3 Start-up Report before deciding. Wish us luck!

5. Notes From Our Founder: ‘Bridging The Gap Between Music & Tech’

Last week, I spoke at Blokur’s #MusicTech Event alongside Bina Mistry from Peloton Interactive and music:defined, Shrina Patel from Merlin, and David Knox from Reactional Music  to discuss the often challenging but increasingly exciting intersection between #music and #tech.

From our meaty discussion, two things everyone agreed with were:

1. Music licensing – the struggle for startups is REAL.  The necessity to innovate and build bridges that allow businesses like Biiah to enter the music scene more easily is more significant than ever!

2. Music rights – the industry is highly lucrative and copyrighted; expecting start-ups who are “powered by”  music to shell out $100k before they’ve proven product-market fit is nonsensical.

So, where do we go from here?

We inspire change by sharing our challenges and keeping the conversation at the forefront of advancements in the space.

By collaborating and innovating, we can move the needle on bridging the gap between music and tech to help more Music Tech startups start.

The real work begins now.

Warmly,

Xann
